Why should we meditate?

to give yourself permission to revitalize and access your infinite potential. To become more present in our day to day lives and to live as fully as we can. You wouldn’t not brush your teeth twice a day. So, why wouldn’t you brush your mind?

Here’s why everyone should meditate, no matter age, gender, cultural or religious disposition, no matter your political beliefs, stage of life or anything else. Meditation is the most profound form of rest we can provide our bodies. When we practice proper meditation our nervous system de-excites to a level much deeper than average sleep. In this place of deep rest our bodies have the opportunity to undergo immense healing and house cleaning. During meditation our bodies are relieved of the stresses that our demanding lives put on them. Not to mention our minds! So, along with this profound physical rejuvenation, our minds start to experience deeper states of consciousness, known as transcendental consciousness. This state of consciousness is hallmarked by a deep experience of inner quiet, known as shunya, and an exaltation of pure joy that is felt for no reason at all, other than it is the baseline of who we really are. We start to become familiar with this state over time and consistent practice. Then what happens is it starts to emanate into the waking eyed state, meaning we start to live our lives from this baseline of pure joy, of pure being.

We meditate, not to feel good while we sit in our daily practice, but so that we can live our lives to their fullest potential. With a regular meditation practice we start to feel naturally happy, motivated, and present. What is presence? It’s talked about so much these days I think it is worth breaking down. Presence is the ability to live in the moment. To actually experience what is happening right now. Not lost in thought about the past, or the future, or running a situation about he said she said, or some other scenario over and over and over again…it’s void of that and all we see is what is in front of us, hear what is around us, taste what we are consuming, feel what is really there in that second of time that will never exist again. For to not be present is to miss out on life. Think about it. How many days can you not remember what you did, what you ate, or who you spoke to? For most of us it’s more than the days we can remember some of the best moments of our lives. Some hallmark moments of life such as; falling in love, having a child, traveling somewhere novel, your first wave or solo bike ride, propel us into presence. Those are our memories. It is possible to find the present moment more and more and more with a consistent meditation practice. To learn more contact me for a free 30 min consultation.
